Roti / Chapati

Indian bread slice

If you think Indian food is unhealthy or that we eat naan every day, think again. Indian cuisine is healthy, has great variety and contains very exciting flavors - if you dare to move beyond tikka masala and naan!

Maybe this is something you've been waiting for? Roti are Indian everyday bread rolls made from wholemeal flour and water, completely without fat or yeast. They should be rolled small and thin like potato rolls and fried one by one in a frying pan. Other synonyms are chapati or fulka. If you want a real taste, they should be brushed with ghee , clarified butter. Try fresh roti with brown cheese or butter and sugar on it, YUM! And of course with Indian food. They taste excellent with strong curries or vegetable dishes and are often made in a tandoor in restaurants and fast food, but at home it is common to use a frying pan. This is how it can be done on a gas burner, here I am visiting my cousin in my childhood town of Ghaziabad.

It's been popular every time I've done it, which I've done 3 times in kindergarten when my children were that age. The first time was about 20 years ago!

Roti is the Norwegian answer to sliced bread that we eat for both lunch and dinner. The bread is often torn with one hand and used to lift the food like a pin. Here you really get to practice your finger motor skills, I promise you it's easier than eating with chopsticks. In addition, it tastes extra good because you add a sense of feeling what you're putting in your mouth.

Making roti

It's possibly one of the most difficult things you'll learn in my basic course, but not at all insurmountable! It's also the same with my cooking course as with all other courses; practice makes perfect.

Here is the recipe, if you want to try it yourself:

300 gr whole wheat

2.5 dl water

Roti

Good luck! :)
