Yippi, the mango season is here. In India, our mangoes are being harvested and are now at their best! Unfortunately, we won't get the fantastic mangoes in fresh condition, but we'll definitely try next year. AND just to emphasize, it's the same as Norwegian strawberries. No one above and no one next to, there's no doubt about that, right?
But, for now we will have to make do with the Pakistani ones, those who have the opportunity to shop in a so-called immigrant store. After tasting this year's Pakistani mangoes I have to say that it was like last year, little taste and a lot of fiber. I give them a 3 on the dice, it works for this salad but a lot goes to waste due to fiber. Today I share one of the first recipes from 2007, when I made my DVD.
This salad is a great accompaniment to barbecue, other meats and fish. You can choose how spicy you want to make it and of course you can make it without chili for children.
MANGO SALAD
One large mango about 400 gr
100 g red onion, diced
1-2 fresh red chilies, thinly sliced
1 tsp chaat masala
½ teaspoon salt
2 tbsp finely chopped fresh coriander
2 tablespoons lime juice
Procedure:
-Peel the mango and remove the stone. Cut into squares (approx. 2x2cm)
-Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
-Let everything soak for ½ hour.
Chaat masala is a spice mix that I make myself, if you don't have it you can use extra salt and pepper.
