In India also known as Mahatma Gandhi was born in 1869 and is a great role model for many, myself included. Therefore, I want to dedicate this post to him and his philosophy today, since this was his birthday. Mahatma means "great soul or spirit" in Sanskrit and is an epithet. Gandhi ji is primarily remembered for his non-violent policy, "Satyagraha", among other things against liberation from British colonialism. Another name for him is "the father of the Indian nation", hence in Hindi "bapu". Personally, I look up to what he stood for and represented, both for the individual and the nation. His moral code included not retaliating, good behavior, avoiding using insults or condescension towards others.
His main idea was to eliminate contradictions among people, regardless of religion or other background. At times he went on a hunger strike to emphasize what he meant so that there would be an end to bloody riots. If you haven't seen the film about him by the name of "Gandhi", I highly recommend it! It is long, but has an important meaning and you are left with many thoughts and reflections. Since this is his day, I hope this highlights always going forward with the positive instead of the negative in every situation. For me it is a nice thought-provoking lesson in everyday life, where you can easily get the wrong focus due to bad weather or other small events - everyday life in general.
Sharing some of his quotes, which I think are so beautiful;
"The world has enough to satisfy everyone's needs, but not enough to satisfy everyone's wants"
"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win"
"An eye for an eye only ends up making the world blind"
The movie.
