Turmeric Latte // Haldi doodh

Turmeric means turmeric and latte is milk with foam. It's cool that since 2015 it has become hip in cafes "over there" (USA, UK and Australia). It is also called "golden milk", in India it is called haldi doodh, meaning milk with turmeric.

Like masala chai, you can add whatever spices you like and have in your cupboard, but I strongly recommend adding a minimum of pepper because pepper enhances the absorption of turmeric. Basically, it is a health drink or medicine because of the benefits of turmeric and not a pleasure drink. You will probably be looked at strangely if you order it at a café or a night club in India. The natural question will be: "Are you sick?".

Sick or not, it's delicious! Here's the recipe with spices that you must have this winter;

HALDI DOODH // TURMERIC LATTE

2 cups low-fat milk/plant-based milk

½ teaspoon turmeric

3 cm cinnamon stick

3 peppercorns

3 cloves

3 cardamom pods

3-4 tsp brown sugar

1-2 Tbsp grated ginger

Procedure:

  • Mix everything in a pot and bring to a boil while stirring quickly.
  • Strain the spices before serving.

In addition to the health benefits, that cup is also filling, it's actually good!
