Shikanji - Sour and sweet

Finally sun and summer, time for ice cream, cold drinks and swimming! When I was little there wasn't much soda and juice served, as you know there are many hot days in India and shikanji is a beloved cooler in the heat.

It's easy to make, without preservatives and artificial E-substances, but yes, enough with sugar. If you want a light version, you can use fructose or stevia. The recipes make two servings.


MITHI SHIKANJI // Sweet lemonade drink

1 lemon

4-6 tablespoons sugar

5 dl water

Ice cubes as desired

Procedure:

  • Squeeze the juice from the lemon and add sugar.
  • Whisk this together for 2-3 minutes and add water. Mix well and serve cold.

NAMKIN SHIKANJI // Salty lemonade drink

1 lemon

5 dl water

2 tablespoons sugar

½ teaspoon salt

maybe a pinch of ground pepper

Procedure:

Squeeze the juice from the lemon and add sugar.

Whisk this together for 2-3 minutes, add water, salt (and pepper). Mix well and serve cold
