Jal means water and jira (jeera) is cumin , hence the name Jaljira which means water with cumin. These seeds are similar to caraway, but do not taste the same. If you do not have cumin, unfortunately, toasting ground cumin will not be the same. If you do not have the spice available, both the seeds, toasted cumin and other high-quality spices are available in the online store . You simply toast them in a hot, dry frying pan.
This cooling, refreshing drink is great in the heat. Cumin counteracts flatulence, ginger and mint balance the intestinal flora. This is very popular in India, especially when you don't feel like eating anything in the heat and the growth of bacterial flora is at its worst. When I was pregnant with my youngest, this was the drink I carried around in a bottle and the only one I wanted (with 4-5 hot fresh chilies crushed together with the other, which is definitely not recommended for pregnant women due to the risk of heartburn!!).
So put away your carbonated drinks for once and try this, something a Norwegian palate has never tasted before?
