This type of drink is quite unusual for a Norwegian palate, but you can imagine a hot smoothie or a strong latte; without coffee, of course. That's why I call it a date latte, not a double latte!
If you can get dates without sugar, it will be great. Did you know that the sweet dates we safely put in our mouths and think that this is healthy, are dipped in sugar syrup? I learned this on my trip to Dubai last year, look if it says naturally sweet on the package! In any case, there is no need for sugar in the drink, it will be sweet enough. There is no need for any spices or additives. I have mixed low-fat milk with a little water to get a thinner consistency. Skimmed milk can be used, but it is much easier to burn the milk then.
DATE LATTE/MILK
4 dl low-fat milk
1 dl water
70 g dates
Procedure:
- Remove the stones from the dates and cut them into small pieces.
- Heat the pieces in a saucepan with milk and bring everything to a boil.
- Blend everything smoothly with a hand blender.
Serve in a glass with, for example, tandoori almonds or coriander cashews.
